We’re kicking off 2009 with a high-resolution screencast: How to embed a YouTube video on your WordPress site. Covers the difference between linking and embedding, how to tell if you have permission to embed. For: beginners. Length: 3 minutes. Share this video with others by linking here or grabbing embed code from Blip.tv.

Deb Gessner of D-Squared emailed to ask about embedding YouTube videos on her blog. One innocent little question made me realize there was actually a lot to explain. So I took some time for a screencast, because while this stuff may seem obvious to people who have been videoblogging since 2004, we need to realize it’s not obvious to everyone. Not yet. Long live Media Literacy.

Once you’ve mastered the simple embedding covered in this video, YouTube has a YouTube on Your Site page that explains advanced embedding topics, like putting video into an eBay auction, displaying multiple videos in a single embed, and adding playlists to your blog!

NOTE: FOR SOME REASON THE VIDEO DOESN’T PLAY PROPERLY ON THE HOME PAGE! Until we can fix it please GO HERE and then play the video.

Once again, Ryanne Hodson of RyanIsHungry comes to vloggers’ rescue. People who own the Xacti HD1000 camera have noted they can’t play back their footage after updating QuickTime software. Ryanne documents how to replace the H.264 codec in QuickTime so you can use your footage once again if you own one of these bad boys. Thank Ryanne by commenting on her post rather than here. Also she’s got links to more solutions documented in Apple’s QuickTime support forums.

Thankfully Clint made a video of PHXedit. I’ll still post mine, but now the pressure is off. I’m exhausted. Thanks for coming everyone! What a blast!

Node101 Phoenix has space at 2See Studio on January 18 while the gallery is open for Third Friday. We’re inviting all video bloggers, video editors, podcasters, photographers - you name it - in the Phoenix metro area to drop by and do a little co-working. You can also check out a lot of great art and you’ll be the art to the gallery patrons. We have WiFi and workspace. You have know-how and laptop. We’ll supply some water, wine and snacks, but feel free to BYOB or a little food to share.

Of course, if you know people who want to learn a new skill, bring them along, too. This is Node101 Phoenix, after all. We’re always up for teaching people how to videoblog.

My friend Robert Croma wanted to know how to make time-lapse videos with iMovie, so I made this screencast.

Vu Bui was in town for Thanksgiving so Clint and I met him at Haji Baba for some vegan chow. Mmm mmm good.

2See, a local art gallery, will be screening the work of local and national videobloggers during November and December First Fridays in downtown Phoenix. Get the scoop at the 2See web site, then get out and support your local video artists!

The Phoenix Media Makers finally managed to get together and all I got was this silly video. And some blurry photos. But the actual time spent was a wonderful treat!
